UPS for CCTV and Security Systems

When the power fails, security is often the first casualty. Cameras freeze, NVRs stop recording and access control behaves unpredictably. A correctly sized UPS (uninterruptible power supply) keeps CCTV, recorders, network switches and alarms running through cuts and voltage swings, so you don’t lose visibility or footage when it matters most.

Installing a reliable UPS is one of the simplest ways to protect critical IT and security processes. Unplanned shutdowns risk data loss, disk corruption and hardware damage, and they interrupt daily operations. With most modern systems now IP-based, a single mains failure can take a central server or PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch offline and silence every camera it feeds. A UPS bridges that gap and stabilises poor-quality power, so your system keeps operating as designed.

What system is right for you?

Start with the load you need to protect and the runtime you expect. A UPS sized with sensible headroom will keep your CCTV and access control online long enough to ride out short cuts or shut down cleanly if the outage lasts. APS supplies rack-mounted and tower UPS units in a range of kVA ratings with battery options to suit smaller cabinets through to multi-switch installs.

If you already have a standby generator on site, an online (double-conversion) UPS is recommended. It delivers a clean, stable AC output, rides through generator start-up and filters spikes and voltage variations that can affect sensitive IT and security equipment. Where longer runtimes are required without a generator, external battery packs can extend protection; APS will advise on space, ventilation and charging considerations.
